Mio Gogate, Viola

Mio Gogate, Viola

Mio, 16, began her music journey in third grade as a violist. However, her true passion for classical music and performing came during the pandemic in 2020; when she and her friends came together as Phillip Quartet. She also began playing the violin in seventh grade which deepened her love for classical music. In her free time, she loves to go watch operas, especially Wagner's works. She also loves art and that's what she does when she is not playing music or being with family and friends. Mio is excited to participate in this concert to help raise money for children who need support.

Ewan MacLennan, Cello

Ewan MacLennan, Cello

Ewan, 17, is a founding member of the Phillip String Quartet. His journey with the cello began at a family visit to the Tanglewood Summer Music Festival when he was just six years old, where he first fell in love with the cello. After several years of private instruction and work with the Young Artists Philharmonic, Ewan was admitted to the Honors Academy program at Concordia Conservatory for the 2019-2020 academic year, where he studied under cellist Dr. Chungsun Kim. In the summer of 2020, he joined the Phillip Quartet as cellist, directed by Asya Meshberg, and commenced individual study under cellist Michael Katz, and Hannah Moses, cellist for the Callisto Quartet, quartet-in-residence at Yale University School of Music. Since its founding in 2020, the Phillip Quartet has performed on a regular schedule at venues in the Greenwich area and Manhattan, including the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and the Kaufman Music Center. Not limiting his music to personal performance, Ewan has shared his enthusiasm for his instrument with budding young cellists in the Greenwich area as a private instructor and enjoys mentoring strings students at the Greenwich Summer Music Camp, Young Artists Philharmonic and InTempo when his schedule permits.
